Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 ratio recommended
  • 1/2 cup diced yellow onions
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp Hungarian paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

Brown the Meat

  • In a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it up into small pieces. Brown for about 6-8 minutes, until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.

Add Aromatics & Seasonings

  • Stir in diced onions and cook until they become translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Add the spices: chili powder, paprika, turmeric, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar. Stir to combine, coating the beef and onions evenly with the spices.

Simmer for Flavor

  • Add tomato sauce and water, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer, and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should thicken as it cooks.

Adjust and Serve

  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as needed by adding more chili powder or brown sugar. Serve the coney dog sauce generously over hot dogs and enjoy!
