  • 8 oz 227g semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • ¾ cup 180ml heavy whipping cream

Preheat Oven:

  • Set to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.

Make the Vanilla Cake:

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, beat sugar, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • Add melted butter and milk, then gradually mix in dry ingredients.
  • Divide batter evenly between the pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Custard Filling:

  • Heat milk in a saucepan until warm.
  • In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth.
  • Gradually add warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  • Return mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, and let cool completely.

Make the Chocolate Ganache:
